FROM THE DEAN:
We come to the end of another season. It is time to recognize that we had a wonderful year of programs and camaraderie. Everyone on the board has done a great job of providing the membership with opportunities to grow in knowledge, experience and relationships. We owe everyone that served this year a great deal of gratitude in working for the good of the chapter. As members I hope that you have received value and merit in belonging to the AGO.
A reminder that our last meeting of the year will be a social potluck at St. Michaels and All Angels on Nall Ave in Mission Kansas at 6:30 pm. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share; the chapter will supply the main dish and table settings. Mingle and spend some time with colleagues and friends.
Please consider serving your fellow members by volunteering. Many of our members are contributing hours of time for the 2018 National Convention. This is a huge undertaking that will showcase the Greater Kansas City Chapter. In addition, we still need to provide for monthly meetings and to run the business of the chapter while the convention committee works on this one big week in 2018. So please get involved with your chapter, for it is true “It is in giving that we receive.”
Thank you all for this exhilarating, exciting, and enlivening
2015-2016 Dean GKCAGO
FROM THE EDITOR:
I would like to thank TomWatgen for giving me the opportunity to serve the KCAGO as the Bombarde editor. However, I have realized that I do not currently have the ability to give it all the attention and care that it deserves. After discussing this with Tom and Mike Maiden, I am stepping down following this issue. Thankfully, my replacement has already been found. Keith Sandrock will be taking over for the August issue of the Bombarde. Thank you for allowing me to assist this last year.

It is time to renew your membership for 2016-2017. We currently have about 1/3rd of our members paid up for the next season. Thank you! The national office will send out 3 reminders. Hopefully you will be moved by their messages to renew your membership. We love all of you, and want you to remain in our ranks.
In 2014, the National AGO instituted ONCARD (Online National Collection and Remittal of Dues). The National office is now responsible for invoicing and collecting dues from all members. The Chapter portion of dues plus any Chapter-specific funds (e.g., GKCAGO Concert Series donations) collected during dues renewal are returned to the Chapter.
The GKCAGO membership year runs on a fiscal calendar of July 1 – June 30. All current members are encouraged to renew their membership beginning May 1 each year. The GKCAGO RENEWAL DEADLINE is AUGUST 15 to assure inclusion in the printed Chapter Directory, and maintain the July 1 – June 30 membership year.
New members may join at any time and will have a full oneyear membership beginning with the date they join. These “rolling” renewal dates are listed below these members’ entries in our Chapter Directory. Membership Forms and related details are available from the Registrar.

Come see a classical concert featuring our Clay County award winning alumni, Dennis Bergin. On June 3, Dennis joins the Community Chamber Orchestra as organ soloist in works by Handel, J.S. Bach, and Albinoni, followed by virtuoso solo organ selections by J.S. Bach and Widor.
Dennis graduated from Clay Center High School in 1972, holds degrees in organ performance fromWichita State University, and currently lives and works in the St. Louis area. He has won numerous organ competitions and awards, and played on NPR’s “Pipedreams.” We will be playing one work with Dennis that he performed with the St. Louis Symphony. The Orchestra consists of youth and adults who play without a conductor in true chamber style. You can visit with the soloist and musicians after the performance, and get Dennis' autograph too!

Grace Cathedral will host its annual Community Independence Day Celebration on Monday, July 4 at 10am. In past years, we have filled the Cathedral with people driving from as far away as Nebraska, Kansas City, and Emporia. It is a "red, white and blue" extravaganza with brass, drums, piano, organ, winds, choirs, and soloists. The service includes lots of music, Bible readings, a guest speaker, prayers and it lasts just one hour. It's just a lot of old fashioned, patriotic fun in the grand setting of the Cathedral. Grace Episcopal Cathedral, 701 SW 8th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603. This event is also open to any singers who wish to participate. Contact Steve Burk at (785) 235-3457 for more information.
