FROM THE DEAN:
Many exciting and varied things are planned for this brand new year! Take note – our first program is one week earlier than usual and on a Sunday afternoon, January 12th at 2:00 p.m. co-sponsored with KCTPO (Kansas City Theater Pipe Organ, Inc.) at the Music Hall in downtown Kansas City (301 West 13th Street). Parking will be available across the street at Grace and Holy Cathedral since our dinner will be there immediately after the program. Dave Wickerham will be an extraordinarily versatile performer. He works both as a church organist and as a theater organist. He was at the Piper Music Palace in Greenfield, WI for 10 years before becoming the curator of the Milhous Museum in Boca Raton for 10 years. Now he’s at the Crystal Theater in Crystal Falls, WI and principal organist at the Williams Bay Lutheran Church at Lake Geneva.
I hope everyone is planning to attend the January Jubilee on the 25th. We will need workers and mentors as well as attendees. Please personally invite non-AGO members to this event. The on-line registration at our web site is great: www.kcago.com I was able to register easily.
Our May 19th program will be a Member’s Recital. Let Mary Davis dean@kcago.com know if you would be interested in playing on this program which is slated for St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Sign up early to assure your seat on the organ bench. Be sure to include the title and length of the piece you will be playing.
Christopher Houlihan performed an amazing program on November 18th at the Community of Christ Auditorium as part of our KCAGO Concert Series. Through his choices of intricate registration changes combined with an abundance of technical ability interwoven with the skills to gracefully shape phrases to their utmost limits brought forth shouts of approval from the audience more than once. There was no hesitation at the end of the evening – the standing ovation was instantaneous. Though none were passed out to the crowd, I did spot at least one Houli-fan lapel pin worn with pride.
Several members of the KCAGO Board have already indicated their plans to attend the upcoming AGO National Convention in Boston on June 23-27, 2014. This promises to be an exciting occasion. Hope you can join us and come too. This New England trip could prove to be a very valuable experience for those of us who will be involved in the upcoming National AGO Convention when it comes to Kansas City in 2018. That’s just four and one-half years down the road. Registration information is online at www.AGOBoston2014.org. Discount rates are available through January. Forms are in the TAO magazine or at www.agoboston2014.org.
Our sympathy is offered to Carol Wallace. Her father, who lived in New Wilmington, PA passed away at age 97 on December 12th.

Are you registered for a day of respite and renewal - Mind, Body, and Soul on January 25th at Country Club Christian Church? Have you invited your non-AGO friends and fellow musicians? This is a unique event that we at KCAGO are fortunate to offer because of a generous grant from the *Committee on Musicians in Part-Time Employment *which not only offers a rewarding day of continuing education and fellowship to our current members, but can help reshape our chapter into a more accessible and welcoming body. Every new non-AGO friend and colleague you bring to the Jubilee will receive a free six-month complimentary membership to AGO! Additionally, every new member will be assigned a personal mentor from our local chapter to help demonstrate the value, support, and power of working together with skilled and supportive colleagues throughout the year.
First register yourself! Choose the classes from the schedule below that you wish to be apart and follow this link:
http://www.kcago.com/january_jubilee.html.
Second, invite your colleagues and musical friends to join you this day. Consider paying their registration fee as a gift. How about Carpooling down to the Country Club Plaza area together? This may very well be our finest opportunity to grow the KCAGO chapter in a new a meaningful way before the National Convention of 2018. The complete schedule is listed at the end of this issue of the Bombarde.
Seeking a few good men and women: Would you consider stepping up to serve your chapter as a board member? Or do you know someone you think would make a great board member but perhaps has never been asked to serve? The nominating committee would appreciate your help in identifying potential candidates for the positions of Sub-Dean, Secretary, Treasurer, Registrar, Auditor and Long-Range Planning Committee Member. Descriptions of the duties of each position can be found in the Standing Rules section of the Membership Directory. Please email Claudette Schiratti, Nominating Committee Chair, expressing your interest or recommending a friend. mailto:cschiratti@kc.rr.com
