From the Dean:
Hello colleagues,
The year has passed quickly for me and we have had some wonderful performers this year. Thank you to the many who have contributed to the concert series and those who have faithfully attended. Thank you to the great board officers and chairs of committees who fan out to work in the many tasks of this active chapter. I welcome your comments in reflection of this past year and sincerely hope that you have been inspired and engaged. After Jan’s performance at Bachathon, I had to go home and get a new piece of Bach going!
As we wind down for summer we will have one more meeting of the Board on June 11. The main focus of this meeting is the consideration of youth. David Weldy has been a great example bringing students throughout this year. Ann Posey has served well to plan and oversee the competition. Ted Stewart has the heart of a teacher as he encourages young students and challenges us all to keep that learning edge. Doris Daniels has faithfully carted music to each meeting from which we receive sales profits for the youth competition. Our incoming Dean, Dale Ramsey has been mindful of youth as he and the program committee have made plans for this next year. But we can continue to grow in this pursuit.
We face many challenges to pass the delight and discipline of our profession to the future. What are the best questions to be asking? It is my hope that we might develop new avenues of communication, support, creativity, and capturing the imagination of the next generation. We aren’t the clever visioning team of Apple products or Google but we need to aspire to more of that kind of thinking. The internet makes it more possible to think and research as never before. What professions are already doing a good job at engaging the next generation? We are in a leading position as one of the large chapters in the country and perhaps our considerations will have implications in our plans for the 2018 Convention.
Onward and upward!

Did you know about the Region VI Blog? It can be found at www.agor6.blogspot.com, hosted by Jan Kraybill, our Councillor for Region VI. Jan posts information on this site of interest to a wide scope of Region VI members. It is an excellent vehicle for disseminating information quickly and on a broad basis. Jan also maintains a calendar that can be both useful for concerts and programs organists may be interested in attending; additionally, the calendar can provide excellent ideas for programming possibilities by chapter. If you have information you would like posted on the blog, please send it to Jan Kraybill, jkraybill@cofchrist.org.
Registrations are still being accepted for the regional convention, to be held June 20 – 23 in Des Moines, hosted by the Central Iowa Chapter. All AGO members should have received a brochure in the mail. Additionally, a wealth of information is available on the convention's website, found at http://www.agodesmoines2011.org. The promotions alone should be enough to convince you that attending is in all members' interest! Outstanding performers, exciting instruments, informative education sessions, and social experiences with colleagues will be enjoyed by all in attendance. The convention leaders have made an excellent effort to keep expenses to a minimum. Note as well that students are offered FREE registration, with a refundable deposit—one of only two conventions this year offering free registration for students! If you have not attended a convention before, come and find out what brings convention regulars back time and time again. The AGO truly does organize some of the best conventions of any organization.
Please remember to renew your membership. To be included in the directory, your dues and information must be received by the registrar by August 1, 2011. If you have not received a form previously, it can be found HERE or under the Join Our Ranks tab.
With our renewed emphasis on “nurturing the profession,” David Weldy, Youth Committee Chair, has assembled a list of AGO members who offer their services as organ teachers. The information is provided here as a resource to offer to anyone who might be interested in studying the organ.
