From the Dean:
Happy Spring! It’s been long-awaited. I hope you enjoyed March’s program as much as I did. It exemplifies some of the ideals I think that the guild has to offer: challenging ourselves with discovery of music most of us have not heard and calling together our own members and local musicians to make it happen. We were learning from historic repertoire. A friend of mine used to say, “You learn something old every day.” It’s true. Thank you Mary Davis, John Ditto, Terry Foster, Rosi Kaufman, and Bill McCandless for your beautiful music.
Our next program will be at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on 39th and Main. Robert Parris is the Charles B. Thompson Professor of Music and University Organist of Mercer University, He has prepared a brilliant and unique program for us, beginning with his own Sonata and ending with the Reubke Sonata. The organ and nave of St. Paul’s have had recent renovations and this will be a pleasing setting for the program. Plan to join us and bring a friend.
PLEASE NOTE: the date of the May Program is SUNDAY, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s in Mission, Kansas, featuring French Organist, Vincent Dubois.

The GKCAGO chapter competition leading up to the 2011 AGO/Quimby Regional Competitions for Young Organists (RCYO) was held Saturday, March 12, 2011, 9:30-11:00, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, KCMO. All three prizes were awarded: David Ball from St. Louis, a student of Paul Jacobs at the Juilliard school won the first prize and will represent our chapter at the regional convention in Des Moines, June 20, 2011. The second prize was awarded to Jennifer Bower from St. Louis, a student of James David Christie at Oberlin. The third prize was given to Stephen Kucera of KCKS, a student of Ann Marie Rigler. All three performers were outstanding.
The judges were Elisa Bickers, Beth Elswick and John Obetz. John Ditto was our gracious and helpful host at St. Paul's. Monitors, who sat quietly through three hour rehearsals, were Ian McIntosh, Joan Schmitt, John Fields and Claudette Schiratti. Dovie Fields helped as a page turner.
Many thanks to all those who helped make this a positive experience for these young performers.

Update on dues collection for next year: National Headquarters has let us know that the online process they had hoped and planned on using for the 2011-2012 dues collection process has some challenges that still need to be worked out. Because of that, we will be using the same process for membership renewal as in the past. –Submitted by Pam Robison, registrar
