NOVEMBER 2009

From the Dean:

Michael Unger, our October recitalist, was spectacular, no doubt about it. His varied program used the Ott organ at Atonement Lutheran to its fullest. In this season of Thanksgiving, I think we should recognize that there is great organ playing talent out there, and be thankful that the AGO is supporting it and that we can promote it locally as well. Michael was a joy to work with, and I suspect he will have a long career in the field. I’m so glad we could invite him to Kansas City.

I promise that at our next meeting, you will hear something you have never heard before. No “same old classics” this time. Calvert Johnson is bringing music for organ and harpsichord from Japan, China, and Korea, including an arrangement by our own Marian Thomas! Cal is also the Treasurer and Councillor for Finance & Development for the National AGO, so he will bring us an update of what is going on at the national level. It promises to be an interesting evening of new sounds.

**REMINDER TO BOARD MEMBERS: Our next Board meeting will be Saturday, November 14 at 10:30 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church. All committee chairs are asked to attend.

Professional Development Update

For Professional Development, this year's thrust will be for our guild to provide the best possible organists for congregational worship -- either fulltime organists or substitute organists. One of the ways for you to help accomplish that goal is to acquire an AGO certificate. If you are interested in working on your AGO certification, contact Ted Stewart stewart.smith@att.net (816-254-5665) or Betty Bauer hababab@earthlink.net (913-814-9021). For those wishing to substitute, getting the minimum Service Playing Certificate will guarantee you will be included on our web site's substitute list.
